New arena for Samford RDA

Writer's picture: samfordrdasamfordrda

The final stage of a major redevelopment program to upgrade our covered riding arena is now completed.

The project to resurface the Jenny O’Malley Arena involved levelling the base and adding a new sand surface incorporating some 2 tonnes of rubber crumb. We also replaced the ageing arena fencing.

The upgraded surface follows the installation last year of energy-efficient LED lighting to improve safety in the arena on low-light days. Our centre’s key facility now features the latest in equestrian arena materials, providing a ‘joint friendly’ environment for horses and volunteers and allowing us to expand arena hire opportunities.

We sincerely thank those who made this $61,000 project possible… the Queensland Department of Sport and Recreation for contributing almost $52,000 via its ‘Get Playing Places and Spaces’ program; and Moreton Bay Regional Council for funding of $6,500. Samford RDA has met the balance.

Thank you also to the many volunteers who helped dismantle old fencing and prepare for the upgrade work.
