All class at Samford Classic Car Show
The Samford Valley Classic Car Show on October 4 was a major success. It raised more than $4,000 to support our Samford RDA centre.
For the second year, the event at Samford Showgrounds surpassed expectations. It attracted some 400 classic cars, trucks and motorcycles, and hundreds of car enthusiasts from across Southeast Queensland.
Now set to become an annual community fund-raising event, the car show was hosted by the Riley Motor Club of Queensland and supported by the major sponsors Samford Garage and radio station 101.5FM, along with Cr Ellie Smith from the City of Moreton Bay, Craig English Photography, Samford Jewellers, Firecomm Australia, The Village Pump and Repco Enoggera.
Riley Motor Club of Queensland member, Michael Ferguson, said members were only too happy to support Samford RDA, and thanked all who displayed their ‘pride and joy’ on the day.
“It is a win-win situation for us, giving something back to the community and the RDA, while hosting a car show for fellow enthusiasts and promoting our hobby,” he said.
“Plans are underway to do it all again on the October long weekend in 2027.”
Samford RDA President, Michael Costello, said funds raised from the show would be used to maintain the RDA centre, operate its weekly programs and feed and care for the dozen horses that work closely with people with a disability.
“This was an exceptional event with massive support from all who attended,” he said. “As well as paying the $5 per vehicle entry fee, many entrants and show visitors made generous donations to RDA. We are very grateful for this support and for being selected as the beneficiary of this year’s show.”
Michael also thanked RDA volunteers who gave their time to assist with car parking and manning the RDA marquee. Two RDA horses also attended the event to ‘meet and greet’ showgoers.
As one of the judges, Michael said the job was incredibly difficult.
“The vehicle that I chose as ‘RDA President’s Choice’ was a 1968 MGB, however it was just one of hundreds of impressive vehicles on display.”
The event was attended by private vehicle owners and numerous car clubs, resulting in a field of strong and varied entries.
Winning entries were: Colin Domrow, 1926 Chevrolet Truck sold new to Samford Valley in 1926; John Milne in his newly acquired 1921 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost; Phil Dadd in his 1935 Alvis Speed 20; and Greg Wise in his 1968 MGB.
