Samford RDA supporter and local Member, Nikki Boyd, regularly visits us to see her sponsored horse, Misty – but this month she was keen to check out horse power of a different kind.
Samford RDA purchased a new Ford Ranger 4x4 utility as part of a $96,000 Gambling Community Benefit Fund grant provided through the State Government with Nikki’s support. The funding will also purchase an angle-load horse float and a shade structure to protect both vehicles.
Up until now, our volunteers have used their own vehicles to transport horses to the vet or spelling paddock, pick up hay and stock feed, and cart loads of soil and vegetation during working bees. The dedicated RDA ute, and a float which is currently being built, will relieve pressure on volunteers to use their own vehicles for RDA purposes.
We thank Nikki and the Queensland Government for their continuing support of the work of RDA to improve the lives of children and adults with a disability. Over many years, funding from all levels of government has helped to grow our centre at Samford Showgrounds into a leading RDA facility.

JOIN US IN 2024
Samford RDA is actively recruiting volunteers to join our ranks – and we are keen to see more local businesses and individuals become involved with the centre as sponsors or committee members in 2024. Our centre relies on volunteers, who can participate in a wide range of activities suited to their preferences and interests. These include supporting riders during lessons, caring for horses, gardening and grounds maintenance, and office/volunteer management.
