Arena Improvements

Writer's picture: samfordrdasamfordrda

The next stage of developing our centre at Samford Showgrounds is due to start before Easter.

We sincerely thank the Queensland Department of Sport for a grant of almost $52,000 (provided through its ‘Get Playing Places and Spaces’ program) and Moreton Bay Regional Council for contributing $6,500. The combined grants, together with money raised by Samford RDA, will upgrade the surface of the Jenny O’Malley Arena.

The new surface will incorporate the latest equestrian arena materials, including 2 tonnes of rubber crumb that is kind to both human and equine joints. This will be greatly welcomed because volunteer leaders and side walkers physically support riders while they are on their horses in the arena.

We are very excited about this next major improvement to the centre. Last year we installed LED lighting in the arena for better safety and to provide greater opportunities to hire the facility. The lights have also enabled us to offer lessons on Tuesday evenings.

State Member for Pine Rivers and Samford RDA horse sponsor, Nikki Boyd (centre) was first to congratulate us on securing the Queensland Government grant. She is with RDA horses Matty and Promise, Coach Mel and Secretary Jane.
